Theodore E. Diehl, Public Affairs Officer

Theodore E. Diehl began his assignment as Public Affairs Officer at the United States Consulate General in Sapporo in August 2013. Previously he served as Deputy Public Affairs Officer and Vice Consul in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and as a Political Officer in the Office of Iraq Affairs in Washington, D.C. He was also a graduate student intern at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo in 2003.

Before joining the Foreign Service, Mr. Diehl worked in academia and cross-cultural consulting. He participated in a teacher exchange program in Tokyo for four years. He has a master's degree in International Relations from San Francisco State University and a bachelor's degree in Political Economy from the University of Pacific. He also received a postgraduate scholarship to study in Vienna, Austria.

Mr. Diehl grew up in the wine region north of San Francisco, California. He enjoys cycling, hiking, skiing and spending time with his family. He is accompanied in Sapporo by his wife Corinne, son Keaton, and daughter McKenna.
